Southend on Sea (day 2)

It's day two in Southend on Sea (well camping at Wallasea Island). Today has been lovely day weather wise and a great day to explore the delights of Southend. The day started off with a lie in as Dad didn't get up til 8.00 am. Breakfast was sitting looking at the lake and the moorhens, ducks and the fish jumping out to feed on the flies.

Dad rode into Southend via Great Sambridge, Rockford, Little and Great Wakering and Shoeburyness. He then rode along the coast and into Southend on Sea. Lunch was at Leigh-on-Sea http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leigh-on-Sea. Dad called into the Tourist Information Centre and found a bike shop as he's been having a "knocking" on his bike wheel. Turns out he's got a broken spoke. They weren't able to fix in there and then so Dad decided to carry on with it and trying and get it fixed another day. Dad went and had a look at Southend pier http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southend_Pier which at 1.3 miles long is the longest in the world. Dad didn't go to the end even though he could have caught a train!

So much for a rest day. Dad reckons he's probably cycled around 30 miles. However he has lost (well had them nicked) his £2.00 sunglasses! Dozy devil left them on his unattended bike!

Today's windfalls have been blackberries, pear, apple and a mushroom. Dad is going to put the mushroom in the chicken curry he is cooking up for tea!

Tomorrow Dad is heading for Gravesend via the Tilbury ferry.
