There is no plan

Well there is no plan other than Dad is leaving home on the 1st September and catching train and ferry to Dublin. Dad will then turn left and pedal ....

I'm hoping to get daily texts to say "phones switched on" and then I'll give him a call - it's cheaper that way - to find out where he is and what he's been doing.  I'll keep you all updated.

1st September ...

Train and ferry booked for Wednesday 1st September. Departing Crewe and off to Holyhead where Dad will catch the ferry over to Dublin.

More details of the route will follow ...

The dreaded phone call ...

Well the training hasn't gone quite to plan as I got a phone call last Wednesday evening from Dad .... "can you come pick me up I'm outside A&E, I've come off my bike" ! Thankfully nothing too serious but when I went to pick him up Dad was standing outside A&E with the back of hand stitched up and arm in a sling ! When he came off his bike there was a paramedic in one of the houses close by. He came and checked Dad over and he rang for an ambulance. A couple of x-rays revealed nothing broken. God job Dad was wearing his helmet as his head and shoulder took the impact of the fall. He'd been wiped out from behind by one his fellow riders.

Dad had to wait til the Thursday evening to get his bike back and again nothing too serious done - a few more scratches and he just had to straighten out his map rack!

Sling was off by Thursday. Shoulder a bit stiff but it didn't take him long to get back on the bike ... he went for a "test" ride up and down his road on Friday.

He is back out riding tomorrow with the Wednesday Wheelers.

It's been awhile ....

Doesn't time fly ... I had meant to keep you updated on things.

Since the last post, Dad has had a few trips. Been off to Italy and Wales and managed to squeeze in a hernia op as well as having shingles ! It's been a busy few months.

Well Dad is now planning this year's trip. He is cycling the coast of Ireland ! He's tasked me with finding out the costs of ferries for him and his bike, so I've spent this lunchtime researching ferry crossing from Holyhead and Liverpool.

Looking at 1st September start.

Will keep you posted.
